Abstract

The basic concept mastery of Natural Science (IPA) by students of the Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) study program is still low. This study aims to describe the basic concept mastery of natural science by students of primary school teacher by assigning concept map assignments. This research method uses descriptive quantitative research with a one shot case study design. This research was conducted at PGSD Study Program of FKIP UNLA. The population in this study was 25 students of the 2015 PGSD Study Program who took the interest of Science. The sampling used was a saturated sample. The instrument used was in the form of test questions about basic concepts of science. The test was given after the treatment of concept map tasks. This data were processed in quantitative descriptive way to describe the students’’ basic concept mastery of science. The results of the study showed that the basic concept mastery of science by PGSD students was high. It was seen from the six concept mastery indicators. Five of which are included in the high category, namely knowledge indicator (C1) 81.41%, understanding indicator (C2) 78.84%, implementation indicator (C3) 71.79%, analysis indicator (C4) 75.50%, synthesis indicator (C5) 69.87%, and the other one in medium category namely evaluation indicator (C6) 53, 84%.
