Abstract

Family concern has great influence on students' achievement for both academic and non academic. Through communication among family, students learn to develop their ability, creativity, as well as social value. This research aims at describing family communication pattern on outstanding primary school students. Research subject of this research is first rank students who are also actively involved in class activities. Case study method is used to conduct this research, and triangulation technique is used to collect the data in which observation, interview, and documentation are applied. The data gathered is analyzed in three steps namely reducing the data, describing, and concluding by using Miles and Huberman model. Research result shows that communication pattern between students and their parents tend to combine authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative. However among those three patterns, most parents use authoritative pattern. It means that parents let their children do what they want under certain conditions to teach them how to be responsible. Parents keep on supporting, controlling, and taking role on students' learning. As a result, outstanding students' book report show excellent score above standard of KKM, get first rank, and often get academic achievement in Kecamatan and city.
