Abstract
This research is titled mastering the basic concepts of science in prospective primary school teachers through the assignment of concept map assignments motivated by the mastery of the basic concepts of Natural Sciences (IPA) students who are still low in the Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) study program. This study aims to describe the mastery of the basic concepts of natural science students of elementary school teacher candidates by assigning concept map assignments. This research method uses descriptive quantitative research with a one shot case study design. This research was conducted at the FKIF UNLA campus at PGSD Study Program, Jalan Karapitan No. 116 Bandung. The population in this study were students of the 2015 Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program who took the interest of Science of one class with a total of 26 students. The sample used was a saturated sample because the one acting as the sample was the same as the population. The instruments used were in the form of test questions mastering the basic concepts of science. The concept mastery test questions are given after being given treatment in the form of concept mapping tasks. This test question data is processed in quantitative descriptive way to describe mastery of the basic concepts of science by assigning assignments in the form of concept maps. The results showed mastery of the basic concepts of science students of high category elementary school teacher candidates, this was seen from the six indicators of mastery of concepts, showing five high categorical indicators, namely the indicator of knowledge (C1) 81.41%, indicators of understanding (C2) 78.84%, Implementation indicator (C3) 71.79%, Analysis indicator (C4) categorized 75.50%, Synthesis indicator (C5) 69.87% and one medium category indicator, Evaluation indicator (C6) 53, 84%.
